xbox stuck on update message

You gotta help me. I've modded quite a few xboxs in my time and I think I know what I'm doing. I've just modded my sisters in Ireland. It worked fine for a few hours however it now just comes up with a "trying to update message" and getting stuck in this loop(can't do anything else). Its not connected to the NET. I've used my usual Splinter cell hack.
It won't get out of this update loop. It won't accept any games i.e the usual splinter cell. Its seems to have lost the hack completely.
Can anyone tell me, would connecting it to the Net resolve this issue(Im not in Ireland anymore and taking my sister through it is a complete nightmare), and if so what happened?

Thanks for link. I noticed that two threads were posted the next day about the xbox update loop(After searching the forum with no joy). I Don't understand how I could have performed a number of softmods and on this one all of a sudden I get this. I reckon sisters kid must have "accidently" tried to restore to the MS dash and thats were it messed up as I wasn't there when it happened.
Again thanks for the link. It looks like the only way round it is to hot swap it which I've got no chance of explaining to my wonderful but slightly technophobic sister. Also didn't manage to get serial so I've got no chance of doing that anyway.
If naybody knows an easier way to recover please let me know. I'd be eternally grateful.

Just had the excact same problem!!
Do the hot swap very easy no other way to get into hardrive as ftp wont work or a boot disk!!!

Everyone should be informed to learn how to FTP, backup the entire contents of C:\ and their eeprom onto PC first before attempting to mod, If you have NEVER modded your xbox before. Those who have modded and are reinstalling the mod should have an eeprom and MS backed up anyway. Its been proven that you can ftp an unmodded xbox, just follow chunkhead's tutorial. Its not your fault you haven't been informed. If you had your eeprom you wouldn't need to hotswap. You would remove the hard drive while the xbox is off, then you would use xboxhdm 1.9 to create a lunix iso to unlock the hard drive using the eeprom to restore the drive by using the content you backed up from C:\. If you don't want to reformat because you have homebrew content just use the file explorer that xboxhdm has and replace specific files and this would fix the problem without having to reformat. Then relock the drive, reconnect to xbox while its off and your xbox would be restored without hassle. All this would be done if you had your eeprom. This way is fail safe, doing a hotswap without eeprom can leave your hard drive permanently unlocked then the last resort would be to install a mod chip.
-chuckhead: your softmod tutorial should have what i have written in bold it would be useful. It would greatly reduce the number of broken boxes.
