has anyone tried it yet? i dont understand why their own website isnt updated with the new v1.9 update.
anyways, here's the info i got from other messageboards:
------------------------------------------------------------------.
- wiiKey update v1.9b -
------------------------------------------------------------------

"wheres teh update?"
----------------------
right...first off, we like to apologize for the long wait. we
understand that some people have been very upset about it. all
we like to say is that the truth is often a bit more complex
than what people make up on forums, and **** happens. anyways
those that didn't die of accumulated anger...
welcome to wicked wiikey update!

so what's new ?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- audiofix fixed o_0
- dual layer support (no bitsetting required)
- improved media support (all supported chipsets)
- full Gamecube regionfree (no-swap/video setup)
- various "smaller" improvements/fixes
- workaround for FW 3.0 gameid limitation
(existing wkb 1.2 discs will boot again)
- "on the fly" settings for gc games (by holding buttons)
- toggle audiofix, diskspeed, force NTSC/PAL
------------------------------------------------------------------
Full GC Regionfree
---------------------
Boots GC imports directly using a small apploader hook to setup
the correct video mode. To enable this feature use the new
config disc (1.3). Make sure you also enable the basic region
feature, thats what gets you through the wii menu in the first
place. Unlike a real GC, the NTSC Wii doesnt output PAL50. That
means the game may run but theres no picture. PAL60 games will
work, however you need to enable it. The common way to bring up
the "use PAL60?" dialog on a game is to hold B while booting.
Forcing to NTSC may work as well. PAL consoles output NTSC just
fine.
------------------------------------------------------------------
looks fake to me. that screenshot is very "unprofessional" looking. previous boot discs showed more class. that's just my two cents.
That is real. I just updated mine. And now Naruto 4 of GC is playable. All GC games are fully compatible. Amazing. Everything has improved. If you update to 3.0J...U don't have to worry about anything.
From the wiikey website
[08-09-03] Wiikey update 1.9b
A leaked version of the wiikey firmware update is available on several websites. While the leaked firmware is indeed working and has all of the announced features, it does not come with the configuration and recovery discs. A full version will be available from wiikey.cn very soon.
I was on maxconsole forums for the leak. Updated my D2A Wii. Naruto GNT 4 Works (using GCOS swap method).
wiikey.cn have left everyone out in the cold so somebody (beta tester) finally posted it. It's NOT fake, it DOES work. I'm a happy importer now. Thanks to all involved (once again) and hopefully the Big N woesn't do anything to rain on the homebrew and import crowd anymore and will let it be.
Nintendo, We just wanna play.
I have a wii with 3.0U firmware and a wiikey installed. I did the 1.9b firmware update and I can no longer play my burned GC games. The GC games are PAL, and multi-disk ISO's but they were playing fine prior to the firmware update. All wii games worked fine, PAL and NTSC.
Just thought I'd let people know before they update their firmware.
The Burn GC games play fine. My firmware is the semi-bricked 2.2J. I think most of the people have already stated that 3.0 firmware doesn't allow you to boot Multi-games but with someone post something like config disc whatever...don't know the name. You are able to play multi-GC games.
I had no problem playing these games using the GCOS disk on 3.0U, after I updated the wiikey's firmware the wii wouldn't even recognize the disks. I've also found someone in a different forum who has this problem
http://psx-scene.com/forums/wiikey/59122...b-released.html
The way it doesn't even recognize the disks is like region free mode isn't enabled, although I have tried other PAL games for the wii and they work fine. I'm hoping though that there's going to be an option in the v1.3 setup disk that enables region free GC games and that it fixes my problem. Anyways I wouldn't recommend updating the wiikey's firmware until the configuration and recovery disks are released.
same thing happened to me after the updated firmware. I can't read multidisc gc games though. It won't even go to the gcos menu at all. It just says that it is unrecognizable disc.
Maybe it was a clone Wiikey. I had a chip installed back in March that was suppoed to be a Wiikey. I'm thinking it was cloned now, because I got the same message you did. Also the installer said he stopped using Wiikeys, because he was having problems with them when I brought him another Wii to be modded.
so are you guys who are having problems and updated the wiikey with the new firmware in a PAL region, or have a PAL wii and games, or is it ntsc-u? Also, it seems most people are having problems with the gc games, but they are pal. Anyone try gc games on the new firmware from ntsc?
I've done some reading about the wiikey firmware update, and as far as I can tell it hasn't given anyone a problem with wii games. The problem is isolated to GC games. That being said it's not even really a problem, we just need to wait for the v1.3 setup disk to come out. The readme file for the wiikey update itself says that for full GC region free mode to be enabled we need to enable it with the v1.3 config disk.
"Boots GC imports directly using a small apploader hook to setup the correct video mode. To enable this feature use the new config disc (1.3)."
Someone in a different forum dumped the eeprom from the chip after the wiikey 1.9b update and noted that it now stores 5 bits, when previously it only stored 3 bits. He also flashed the eeprom with all 5 bits enabled and then had no problem with GC games, so we can pretty safely assume that those extra bits are used for the new configuration settings but that since that v1.2 disk only edits 3 bits of memory we're not able to enable all features without the new configuration disk.
