I got may ps3 with a 1.5 firmware 3 days ago, and should I upgrade it to a higher fw or should I keep it low incase someone makes a costum fw and a low fw is needed to install it. and what is the install other os thing is the setting option.

To be honest i would upgrade to to the latest FW becuase if you are planning to play online, you need to have the latest FW, and there are actually a few nifty things that they have added since 1.50.

And for the 'install other os', you can install the operating system Linux, such as YDL linux which is designed for the ps3.
