What type of hard drive did you put the swap magic elf on?
Are you trying to play games off the hard drive?
more info please. Perhaps the first guide in this post can help you

Ok well no problem.
To use the Swap magic elf, you will need to do a TOC refresh, then swap the game disc.
If you do a forum search I have answered that question already in a few threads.

It's not working, I tried to do a TOC refresh with the SM 3.3 PAL DVD, SM 3.6 PAL DVD, PAL Time Crisis 2, PAL DEVIL MAY CRY DEMO, PAL Smackdown vs RAW 2007, PAL Smackdown HCTP and they all just kept on spinning.

I'm sure the ELF is PAL coz i made it from this file: SCES_500.03

Ok well something is wrong for sure, cause I know I have done it with the swap magic elf 3.8 DVD I have and I click eject, load the disc for TOC refresh, then wait and then it tells me to load my homebrew, game etc so then I use the fliptop on my V7 and swap discs then.
You can try the version I used, just click my sig. and then go to my folder and find it there.

I still have the same problem. I use Slimtool, i just pick the top left tool up a bit, it tells my to instert a bigger TOC, so i do, i then push the tool back down so the disc starts to spin, but it never stops spinning until i turn off the PS2.

Well do these backup games of yours work just when you use your SM 3.6
Most games will play with 3.6 so why do you want to use the Swap Magic elf, is it just for the codes.

Have you tried using ar max evo for swap magic, I have it on my site, the updated Mar.2007 version. I burned it to a DVD.
Its easy to use with the slim ps2.
DVD BACKUPS:

1) Boot your PS2 with SWAP MAGIC DVD Disc

2) Using SWAP METHOD insert AR MAX EVO DVD and hit X

3) Make sure you scroll down on the Black and White screen to the
option entitled RESET IOP. Change this to always. Hit X to run
DVDLOADER

4) At the DVDLOADER screen hit X and you will have a menu. Select
AR MAX and hit X to load AR MAX EVO

5) Enter Expert Mode to find your desired codes and hit START

6) At this point AR MAX EVO Will prompt you to eject and insert game
Disc - DO NOT EJECT, just hit start game with codes then X and wait for
the Black and White screen to load. Dont worry about the IOP option just
hit X and let DVDLOADER load up.

6) To Stop your disc from spinning in the disc tray you will need to hit
the Triangle button.

7) The Screen will lose a few words and and this is when you will need to insert the SWAP MAGIC DVD Disc

8) Now hit Triangle once again and the disc will start to spin and the
screen will reload. Now hit the X Button.

9) a red screen should come up prompting you to swap dvd with EA method,
Don't worry as all you need to do is insert the
DVD game backup you want to run with codes. HIT X

VOILA!!

You are now running your DVD BACKUP game with codes from a BACKUP AR MAX.

You need retail swap magic for the Ar Max evo that I have and yes it works as I use it quite a bit. The dvdloader is already embedded in the Ar Max evo.
