DV out DV in Right?

I have a Hitachi VM-D875LA Digital 8 camcorder with a firewire connection. The thing will send DV to the computer fine but when I try to send edited DV back to the camcorder there seems to be a communication breakdown between the thing and my PC. It doesn't even begin to happen. Hitachi customer service doesn't seem to know any more about it than I do. The manual indicates "DV in/out" via iLink. Anybody know anything?
