Divx is to video, as mp3 is to audio. just as audio runs on music cds in CDDA format ( i believe) , and not in mp3, so when you try to burn it, the program wants to redo the mp3 to another format, the same falls for video. It needs to be in the dvd video format. The point of Divx, is to compress the video, soyu can store more on your hard drive, cds, dvds, etc (dvds as in storage, data iso style). Also, so say that you are transferring the files from one person to another (in legal forms of videos for transfer, not pirated versions of things) then you have less to send and receive.

Thanks for the reply.
I see the possibilities for sending small video's to my children in Holland. However i have a very large hard drive and if i wanted to store larger home movies i would have no problem. Again thanks because now i will not buy this prog thus saving me money!

You may want to think about getting one of the new DVD players that will play Divx files. I have the Liteon LVD-2001, and there are also 4-5 other versions on the market now. Using the Liteon player I can rip DVD's to Divx files the burn these files to a data (ISO) DVD. Usually I get 3 to 4 movies on one DVD. Of course you give up things like menus and special features, but for archiving movies, I don't care about all these extras. And for movie series and for the kids movies, the Divx format works well. On the other hand, if you just want to archive DVD's, you might DVD Shrink, which will allow you to back up any DVD onto a single DVD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW, and you can include the menus. The Liteon would still been a good buy even if I didn't use Divx, because it will play any of the writeable/rewriteable DVD formats except DVD-RAM. I am also able to use it for playing Mp3 files, and a single DVD-R will hold up to a thousand songs.
