A modder near where I live told me that there are 6 different kinds off Wii boards and one that requires you to use a dremel to scrape paint off the board in order to see some solder points. I've always thought that there was just 3 Wii mobos including the easy modable one, harder one with one point on a chip, and the not moddable one.I have a 2006 wii and he is telling me that it has solder points under the paint. Could some please clarify? thx

If you bought the Wii in 2006 then it should be an easy Wii to mod. I don't know what the modder is talking about "paint".

On new D2B Wii consoles, the Wii has cut legs on the IC. You have to use a dremel to expose where the traces are and then solder there.

Now he's saying that there are also two different kinds of D2Bs and that one requires you to find 3 hidden solder points and the other 4. Anyone care to clarify? thx again

Yep. Old D2Bs don't have any cut legs. But new D2Bs have cut legs.

You can check what yours is here by putting in your serial number.

There's only no different motherboard versions only drive board revisions.

1: D2A
2: DMS
3: D2B No legs cut all points
4: D2B legs cut all points
5: D2B No legs cut, missing 1 point
6: D2C

I'm not sure if there is a D2B legs cut 1 point missing. Anyone confirm?

So are there any sites out there that have install diagrams for the different boards? Out of all the research I did before I even bought my wiikey, I didn't even see that there were different boards... Now I finally buy one, pop my system open, and it's a different board. This is very annoying.

That's the spot on my board, and the tracker site says my wii is a GC2-D2C. I just want a diagram so I can wire install this thing and get it over with...

And that's how babies are made.

If the chip is a D2C it's currently un-moddable.

I have #5: D2B No legs cut, missing 1 point. I have soldered contact point 3 from the wii key chip directly to the drive board chip leg. The unit boots up and reads originals but not backups. Any ideas? Do all original authentic wii key chips have a hologram sticker on them? How can you ensure authenticity? I think I might have a clone. If so, will I need to use a setup disc for sure?

Thanks,

Allan
