Hi, to do the flashing, I purchased this pci controller which has the sata inputs. My cmputer is not set up with a raid array, it is just one hard drive. I assume that this is still fine and will work perfect, only if I had needed it that it would have supported raid?

I hear samsung drives work fine with via chipset cards and also most 78fk work well with it. You first need to specify which drive you've got and the firmware installed in order for the other more knowledgeable members to help you. You are a junior member, you should know that.
