Xbox 360 - three red lights query ASAP HELP PLS

I've got a core xbox 360 and the manufacture date it 10-4-06, although I got it 4 days ago. Three red lights have occured.

I know I can go to microsoft to have it fixed, just got a quick question. Im currently trying the traditional "towel method" to see how long it runs for, although the power brick as amber and the lights are flashing on the xbox.

Does anyone know why this could be?

PS: I got this console brand new out a sealed box. The reason its manufacture date is so old because I had it free with a phone contract Monday.

Any advise or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

well if its a 2006 model then it comes under the microsaoft 3 year warrenty, phone them , they arrange colllection and u dont need to pay lol. Or you could try this u r self but its better leaving it to the pros.

agree, send it to MS. The towel method may delay the problem from happening again. But it will not fix it. MS on the other hand has been installing new stuff so that it SHOULD stop the problem for good.

Thanks guys. I tried my mates power supply and it worked fine, so its the damn power brick (ever noticed how much much it looks like the trapper from ghost busters? lol)

I called MS and they're sending me another power brick, although its gonna take upto 10 working days - it sucks. I've only had the console for 4 days! lol.
