Firstly, i have read and read but everyone seems not too sure and jumbled at the moment.
Here's the thing:
I have PAL Wii - Ver. 2.1E, with Wiikey (and region free on)
I have downloaded Metroid Prime 3(NTSC-U), and want to play this game so i went and hired Boogie (PAL), for 1 night.
Can you tell me if i update with Boogie PAL, will i be able to play Metroid Prime 3 (U) without a problem?
It seems that people are saying i need to update wiikey first before updating the wii to 3.0 anyway?
Can anyone clear this up for me?

if you have a pal wii and
you only EVER play pal games
you are totally safe
if there is a necessary update to play the game, it will be ON the disc. It is SAFE to update with this disc because it is the SAME REGION as your wii
it all depends if there is an ipdate on the boogie disc or not. EVEN if it updates, before you put in the metroid disc, check on wii settings what your firmware is at
it is only when you play different region discs you need to be very careful
the fact you want to play ntsc metroid is very UNWISE as it may have an update of 2.2 and above - THIS WILL POSSIBLY BRICK YOUR WII

Appeciate your reply there Thinone, but i do know a bit about what is safe and what isnt.
i KNOW that playing MP3 will update something and possibly brick my wii, but i dont think it will if i have 2.2E or above. What i do think, is it will give my wii that duplicate chanel if i let it update with the NTSC-U version, which i dont want to happen.
Haskida has pointed to a link - it mentions this also.
PS. I just ran PAL Boogie, but it only updated something to use the Mic, there's no 2.2E update on it in case anyone wanted to know.
What i guess im asking now is, i wanna know if anyone out there has tried their 2.2E wii with playing MP3, and what happend.
Also - can anyone PLEASE tell me a game that updates to 2.2E ?

I have 2.1E firmware. Did the un-plug trick with Metroid Prime 3 update.
Game works however my settings are gone now - so i have semi-bricked my wii.
Anyone else have this problem? I dont think it bothers me too much as i can always use a game in the near future to update the firmware (i dont have the internet for wii).
Just wanted to let everyone know.

Oh come on, i said semi brick, i just cant look at me settings for now, big woop - i had read that it had happened to a few others already from this patch - i knew the risk, and it doesnt bother me. Like i said, i can update with any game that's 2.2E or higher, which isnt a problem. So, no really - it wasnt oops. More like, oh well.

calm down - it was just a little humour
i would not wish anyone to brick their wii semi or fully.

hope u get it sorted soon

I have internet access at home, if that's what you meant. I just have never been able to hook it up to the wii. I dont have the nintendo lan adapter, but i heard people can use a router and an ethernet cable?? Im not sure on this so i havent gone to buy a router as im not sure about it...
i have no other friends who have a wii hooked up to the internet...
and there doesnt seem to be a PAL game around here in australia that comes with a 2.2 or 3.0 update as yet...

all u need is anyone with a wireless router- they dont have to own a wii
just get them to put settings to 128bit wep or disable security for 5 mins and then connect the wii to their network wirelessly
its not difficult
or buy a wireless router for yourself - pretty cheap these days
