I have occasional need to legally capture video which is playing on my PC monitor. They need to be in AVI format. I have successfully tried several different programmes for this - Debut, Fraps, AVI Screen Classic etc. However, no matter what programme I use or what setting, the source video is smooth when I initially play it but as soon as I start to record/capture the video, the original video starts to run in a choppy manner and the captured video is similarly choppy. I'm not even recording sound! I have 1gb memory and plenty of hard-drive space. I suspect that the culprit may be either my video capture card (ASUS TV7134) or my graphics card (Nvida GeForce FX5200). However, I'm ashamed to say that I have been unable to find out which of these actually does the capturing! I've updated the drivers for both, and closed down all other running programmes without improvement. Changing the frame rate makes no difference. Any suggestions? I suspect that I will be having to undertake frequent captures in future - should I be looking at boosting the performance of my PC and if so, what is the best thing to purchase?
