why do my avi's fast forward for a few seconds for no reason?

When playing my avi files sometimes they fast forward (speed up) for a few seconds for no reason at all. Could anyone tell me how to stop this.

I am sure this has probably been answered but I've just spent two hours trying to find the answer to this with no luck. Any solution or reference to an apporpriate thread would be great.

In what players does this fast forwarding occur?

After you load the AVI and it fast forwards, stop the movie and play again. Does it forward again?

It happens in windows media player 8 and 9, in BS player as well.

What happens is that the movie will speed up (approx 4X speed) for a few seconds for random intervals and random places in the film (Its never the same place i've checked). This happens for all .AVI files. I stopped the movies, played it back, but it still happens. The audio and video always remain in sync though.

I am using all the right codecs and have currently got the Nimo codec pack installed (verion 9.1 beta), FFD show and the lastest DivX codecs. Could it be some incompatibility between the codecs?

I've had that happen when there are bad frames in the original media. The software 'speeds up' to skip over the bad frames (usually to the next keyframe) and then restarts the video/audio.

If you are interested, try testing your files Div Fix (or something similar) to see if there are bad frames... Div Fix can usually fix these if there are.
