Okay, I've been coming to the forums for quite some time but this is my first post. I recently purchased a Max Drive Pro. I installed GCos on the memory card and right off the bat had no problems w/ loading games (so far I only have backups of Metroid Prime 1/2 and The Incredible Hulk. but when playing two of the three problems occur. Here's the break down of my problem(s):
Metroid Prime:
I played the game for quite some time when suddenly the game froze up and an annoying screeching sound was coming from the television. Once a game gives an error or locks up on the GC there's no opening the lid and closing it in hopes of attempting to read the disc again (like that of the Wii). There was no error message displayed on the screen. I don't recall the level that I was on but it was in the beginning of the game. I was attempting to open a door to enter another room.
The Incredible Hulk:
This error occurs in the same spot each and every time. Anyone familiar with the game will understand this a bit better. When the game starts I am in the city. The first goal is to neutralize the police who are shooting at you. Once this objective is done the first level (noted on the radar) opens up and you can go to the site (the goal of the level's to deactivate 3 generators). Every time I go to the level (has happend 4/4 times so far) once I start to play it it locks up and I get the following error:
"An error has occurred. Turn the power off and refer to the Nintendo GameCube Instruction Booklet for further instructions."
What am I doing wrong? With the exception of Metriod Prime the other two games are in NTSC format. I have a US GameCube (model: 06) and have had it since it first came out. I also have another GameCube which I purchased about 3 years ago that does the same exact thing.
Perhaps my laser needs to be adjusted? If this is the case I have a multimeter but what tool's needed to get the thing open (I read that a ballpoint pen would do the job; what type of pen)?
I am using RiData mini DVD-R's (4x speed) so I don't think it's the media. I have ran these same games in my Wii (installed w/ WiiKey) and I don't get these errors.
The whole reason for the softmod is so that my kids (4 & 6) can play the games that I have but not destroy the originals. If I want to play them I can play the originals on my Wii so that's not the issue.
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long winded post. Thanks in advance.
If the games work error free in your Wii, then we can rule out bad game rips. My personal experiences lead me to say that it is one of 3 things.
1. your dvd burner. it may not produce a strong enough burn. I had a stock TS burner in my computer that produced lots of good dvd movies for home viewing, but can't burn a playable NGC disc no matter what. I bought a NEC, and it burned flawlessly. Same ISO's, much better results.
2. Burn speed, some drives will burn better fast, some burn better slow. Most of my NGC backups are on the same media as yours, but I burn at 2x and it reads better.
1 and 2 are easy things to try before you open the gamecube up.
3. Tweak the laser. If you only have 1 burner, or you have tried different models, and speeds, and nothing helps, this may be your last hope.
Yes you need a special tool to open the case, or you can use a pen, if you want. if you use the pen method, go to the hardware store, and replace the screws with regular ones.
It very well could be the laser the GC is very picky on the media and how it will work for it, Its really hard to find info on adjusting the pot but luckily a thread just showed up with plenty of info here just recently take a look here:
