I'm a newbie, and after searching the forums and not finding anything, I was wondering if you could help me debug an idea I'm having
I have LOTS of TV I want to burn. Using DVDSanta, TMPGEncDVDAuthor3, etc all mean 3 hours of burn time, but not only that, it means that I set it up, go to bed, and 3 hours later, it's done and my computer is sitting there idle. I want to use that time. I want it to run all day! So the way I'm looking to approach it would be to convert ALL the files, then burn them when I have a day off work. I have a 500GB HDD, so space isn't a problem. Here's the main question I would like to ask:
If I convert everything to an .avi with the proper DVD-Video format, how long would it take to convert to .vob, seeing as there is no transcoding, just splitting up?
Typical AVI to DVD conversion times usually run me just over an hour with ConvertXtoDVD...a faster machine will be, well, a little faster. What you need is a program to "batch" encode and unfortunately I don't know of any off hand.
I found VirtualDub to be easy to batch encode. Now, and I'm sorry I didn't make this clearer, if I re-encode everything using the batch encoder, will it still take 3 hours to author the dvd, or will it take a considerable less amount of time? I was thinking that maybe I could re-encode everything all at once, then author the dvds, and it wouldn't take as long as there is no transcoding
