HDTV Delay Accepting Video Output from HTPC

I have a few HTPC's at home with the same problem, which I'm sure is common. However, I had no luck searching for the problem/solution in the forum, so feel free to redirect me if I missed a prior discussion.

I have a new Philips 42PFP5332D/37 hooked up via HDMI-2-DVI cable to the DVI output of my Radeon x700 PCIe card. Resolutions are working great for both 720p and 1080p, the display is outstanding. My only problem is that when I turn the TV on, it takes it quite a while to recognize the video output from the video card. I rigged a remote control key (using Girder) to toggle my output resolution back and forth in order to get the TV to recognize that a valid 720p signal is being passed, but this doesn't work consistently.

I have the same issue with another HTPC with a similar video card hooked up directly via DVI to a Sharp Aquos LCD TV. In that case, the resolution toggle does seem to bring the TV to life more consistently.

On both TV's, I have tried switching input sources to another source and then back to the HTPC source. This doesn't seem to work.

There seems like there must be a better way to do this. Anyone have experience forcing the TV to pick up the video signal immediately after turning it on? Does anyone know of an ATI/OS configuration trick to do this, or of a trick using Girder to jump start the TV's recognition of the video output? Thanks in advance for your help!
