This is probably a stupid question, but is Ripit4me no longer useful? Have the updates stopped on it? And is there any other program like it, except AnyDVD?

Clone DVD is not essential - virtually all movies can be done with the AnyDVD and DVD Shrink combination.
For info DVD Shrink does not burn - it is using a third party app such as Nero for the burning bit.

does dvdfab HD decrypter work as well as anyDVD? Because fab wouldn't rip an entourage season disc and anyDVD did. Just wondering because as you said it isn't free and I don't really want to buy it.

If you don't want to buy AnyDVD, then you are pretty much left with using DVDFab HD. The other DVDFab products are also retail programs.

That's very unusual that DVDFab HD wouldn't rip a disc and AnyDVD did. DVDFab HD is always updated, so it should handle the copy protection. Have you tried uninstalling it, then reinstalling it? I haven't had any problems using DVDFab HD.

Friend...ANYDVD is well worth the money. I hate to pay for anything, but I only use 2 pay programs and they work on EVERYTHING!!! ANYDVD and DVD Rebuilder Pro. I use Final Burner to burn with and DVD decrypter to rip with (these are both free). Every movie is sucessfully done and plays on every standalone player I have played them on.

Both products have to updated frequently to cope with newly introduced copy protection schemes. If DVDFab HD won't rip entourage now I would bet on an update soon to fix that problem.

I agree with LOCOENG, get used to using software besides RI4M because it won't be updated anymore. Eventually a copy protection will come along that will stop it. However, that hasn't happened yet and I still use RI4M most of the time. I have DVDFab Platinum, the free DVDFab HD Decrypter, AnyDVD, DVD Region + CSS Free, and RI4M. Not as though I don't have options. LOL The RI4M has made me a bit lazy since I started using it. Open the DVD in 1-Click mode and it rips and cleans up the files and runs a DVD compliance test with the DVD Shrink quick analysis and leaves the files open in DVD Shrink for those who choose to use Shrink for transcoding. When ARccOS first came along, we were ripping and then processing for compliance. Most of the software now rips for compliance, but I've gotten so used to RI4M being a sure thing, I'll use it til the copy protections become too much for it. RI4M can be found at Softpedia for those who want to give it a try.
LOCOENG made a bunch of suggestions I like, including the ImgBurn. Great little program and it's free.

It seems that some of you add an additional program in the chain (for compliance), such as DVD rebuilder pro. Is this necessary? Also, what are the advantages of using Imgburn over dvd decrypter to burn? Thanks

DVDD is going on three years with no support or updates, I think that would make Imgburn the obvious choice...although there really isn't anything wrong with the burn engine of DVDD.
I don't test my rips for compliance with DVD Shrink, Recode or DVD-RB....so in my opinion it is an unnecessary step.

DVD Rebuilder Pro is an encoding program. Definitely not an extra step. In the past some of the copy protections tampered with DVD structure so recording software would read the files as being noncompliant. Nowadays most of the decryption and transcoding software compensates. The quick analysis in DVD Shrink has long been used for compliance testing. Open the files in Shrink and if the analysis completes, odds are you have compliant files. Same for Recode, same author I hear. When in doubt, it's an easy check. It's nothing that needs to be done everytime, unless you're set up for it or just want to. RipIt4Me includes decryption, cleanup and opens in Shrink for the check when using the 1-Click mode. It was more the sure thing. Though it's lost support and hasn't had an update in some time, it still hasn't run into a DVD release it can't do when used properly.
