i'm going for 3.52 M33-4. i installed the kxploitpatcher with no problems, then the 3.52 M33 CREATOR with no problems, but then ran into an error with the 3.52 M33UPDATE step, where it tells me that my psar is incorrect. i've done everything perfectly fine, so i assume it's either my PSP or Sony 4GB memory card pro duo that's causing the hassle. i'm thinking of using the 3.52 M33 Winstaller instead, but i got scared after the intro warning about brickin the system, because if it's possible to throw $94 out the window, it'll happen, with MY luck. i just got my psp, and it's a 100% working 1.50 one, so i don't wanna do anything coocoo that has me looking into my RECOVERY options. just want the safest way to get 3.52 M33-4. what do i do? will a smaller memory card do the trick? thanks

i always use a 2gb card when i upgrade, but i can't see it will make any difference, maybe you should try the winstaller and there is always a small risk of bricking when ever you mess with the flash but as long as your battery is 75% or above and connected to the charger you should be ok

sorry, double post

does my psp need to be in any particular state before i use that winstaller? because, so far, i've successfully installed the kxploitpatcher and the 3.52 M33 CREATOR. the system properties in the PSP still states that it's a 1.5 FW. is it okay to run the winstaller on it right now, or should i make some changes first?

and something else before i try installing the CFW: are there any strange problems with making gamesaves, or setting up and connecting to my password-required internet connection, or playing games online with others in lobbies, or reverting back to the official 1.5 FW I started at, if i install this CFW? thanks

i would at least if you do brick there is an unbricker now(pandora's battery)and custom firmware is totally worth the risk
format your memstick first on your psp then run the winstaller
EDIT:this is probably the best one for you

i had a kinda same issue when updgrading to any CFW, the solution is either using the winstaller with any memstick, or you can do the manual way but with less than 4GB memstick, cuz it somehow wont work with the 4GB memstick, it gives you psar incorrect.

exactly, i read that somewhere else, that the 4GB stick just doesn't work with this.

is there a major risk running the winstaller on the 4GB stick?

if so, i would simply purchase a smaller GB stick just for the install, in which case i'd like to know what the minimal GB is that it has to be, so i don't have to spend too much money. also, i assume that i can use the 4GB card AFTER installing the CFW with the smaller one. correct? i own a 1GB stick made by a company called 'PNY,' which i use in my digital camera. should i just try using that, or is there some major risk involved with using a non-Sony card?

I have used 4GB MS when upgrading to CFW for myself and others.

@andrewset

I just wanna run through the steps you used with the manual 3.52 M33 installer.

You downloaded the installer and the 1.50/3.52 official firmware.

You changed the 1.50 and 3.52 firmware to 150.PBP and 352.PBP and placed them in the M33CREATOR program.

Then you dragged the KXploitpatcher, KXplotpatcher% and M33CREATOR to ms0:/PSP/GAME folder

Then you ran the KXploit permanent Patcher. Then ran the M33CREATOR.

Did you do all those steps before running the 3.52 M33 update.

It also might help to connect the PSP to PC via USB and use your PC to format the MS. Right click on the PSP MS drive letter and choose format. Choose FAT32 for file system and make sure the QUICK box is unticked. When it is done formate it again via PSP system settings.

After this try running the M33CREATOR again. Sometimes the psar file isn't created correctly and doing it a second time should work.

hmm.. so it seems all the necessary items have to be put into the Game folder right from the start, but, to clarify, in total, as a complete list, how many items am i running through the Game option in psp, until i get to where 3.52 M33-4 is installed? is it:

1. KXploitpatcher
2. M33CREATOR
3. 3.52 M33UPDATE (only appears after M33CREATOR is complete)
4. (and then possibly some item that turns the 3.52 M33 to the 3.52 M33-4?)

when i run step 3 (3.52 M33UPDATE), which sometimes has a picture of cosmos, and sometimes a messed-up-looking image with white and purple bars, it gave me the psar error before, but now it simply stays on the PSP logo with the white background and then turns off.
by the way, i also see an item that says 3:33:33 with the calender month of March shown in the background. haven't run that yet, as i don't want to do anything wrong

after this stuff failed in the way i described, i formatted the memory stick with the pc as you explained, then formatted it again by the psp, as you also said, but, still, it fails to install the 3.52 M33UPDATE (step 3), this time stating that the battery has to be at least at 75%. i checked, and it's at 88%. not to mention that it's plugged into the usb charger. or is it not supposed to be? (maybe it's not detecting the true battery power because it's plugged in?)

what i'm getting from another forum is that this just doesn't work with 4GB cards, and that my safest possible option is to buy a 256MB SanDisk memory card to install the M33. i'm leaning towards that so far, but any further help would be great. thanks

You should have it pluged into the Wall Charger not the USB Charger.

I sent you a PM message. So go to the top of the forum and check your Private Messages.

There are no risks using the winstaller, and i prefer using the winstaller rather than the manual, cuz its much faster, cuz you skip doing the creator and goes directly to the updater.

There are NO differences between USB charger and direct Wall Charger.
