hitachi drive... hold on let me check which firmware... 59. i remember it being extremely easy to flash. basically i left it at a friends house for a while. picked it up today. its acting peculiar. it doesnt seem to like haveing a shut disc drive... it will keep opening again and stuff... even if i swith it off it will leave the disc drive out most of the time. it almost acts like its in mode b... but not quite... but also on the screen it will constantly say oepning then closing then reading then opening etc. without me even touching anything and it will happily do this cycle until i stop it... anybody had these problems? im thinking its either a simple re flash or it could be the xbox sata power cable between the disc drive... any thoughts

EDIT: after eventually gettin it to keep a dvd in and read it it says unplayable... a dvd i just used in a dvd player and anohter xbox 360... this is just a standard dvd.

also i attempted to restore... it came up with a error saying either it is... not a working version... but it must be cos i flashed it before? or its... because i have applications in the background, which i didnt. or because... damn i forgot the other one... but it basically said no :(

I had this once with a chrome case and it was the metal cage on the inside of the case sorting it out somehow. Make sure you put the case back together right because it seems like a short somewhere.

Also, never hurts to reflash the drive. make sure everything is 100%

iv restored firmware, still does it, there is no case on it atm... i have cleaned the laser, tried another sata cable. The disc drive doesnt keep popping in and out but every single disc is unreadable... :-s
