Hallo,

First off, I am a complete newbie on the Xbox 360 'scene' and appologise in advance for any stupid questions or general ignorance.

I bought an xbox 360 and got it flashed. I was then under the illusion i was unnable to use xbox live, but now im hearing off people you can still use xbox live. I tried going on xbox live but it said a update was required and i could not continue without it. should i download the update or will it give me the red ring? (break my xbox)

Can anybody help? Hope, this has not already been extensively discussed and I am asking peole to repeat themsleves again.

it definitley wont break your xbox, no matter what happens you will still be able to play backups offline.
now with that said, it can ban you from xbox live, i have had one system banned myself but if you use caution you can successfully play online.
first off you need to find out what it was flashed with, you will need the most recent ixtreme firmare and you will have to have your games stealth patched.
your first step is to find out what firmware he used.

i play every day on live with a modded system and almost everyone here do as well.

I'm having the same problem as well, I just have iXtreme on my flashed box. But it's nice to know now that I can update without it getting and error.

Can someone point me to a link or instruction on how to stealth patch my games? Thanks in advance.

thanks how do i undate my firmware and stealth patch my games? and im not sure what firmware i have but i did get it flashed in the first few months of the xbox 360 coming out so i imagine the first one. and if it only bans me how come i keep hearing of people getting a read ring on there xbox and it stops working?

that's a general hardware failure indication, that's all. comes from the inards for any of multiple reasons, but it's not cuz u flashed ur firmware, it's from components inside breaking down, some due to shotty construction.
