I NEED HELP. I HAVE TRIED FLASHING THE DRIVE BUT HAVE HAD NO SUCCESS. I HAVE BUILT IN SATA PORTS WHICH XTREME BOOTMAKER IDENTIFIES. WHEN I BOOT TO THE USB STICK, TYPE XREAD IT FINDS:
1) MASTER IDE
2) XTREME PRIMARY
3) XTREME SECONDARY

AFTER TURNING OFF XBOX AND TURNING IT BACK ON FOR

OPTION 1) IT JUST SAYS SOMETHING LIKE 0800 .....

BUT FOR OPTIONS 2 & 3 IT SAYS FAILED TO INITIAL PORT .

DOES THIS METHOD ABSOLUTELY REQUIRE THE VIA SATA CARD OR ONBOARD SATA CAPABLE OF WORKING. I HAVE FLASHED AN M25 AND HITACHI'S USING THIS MOTHERBOARD W/ SATA (INTEL CHIPSET - I DO BELIEVE).

Your best bet is to buy a Via 6421 A or L card.

are you turning the xbox back on after you have selected the drive?
(xtreme primary it should be)

get a via6421 card and you can't go wrong :-)

make sure you count to ten after you hit the drive key before turning your xbox back on.

Some times i have counted to eight and some times six before turning the drive on to get it too dump the firmware.

Just keep at it and try varying your count.

Thanks fellas.
I ended up forking out 20.00 dollars on ebay for the Via VT6421L and on the first attempt - worked flawlessly!!! I recommend to anyone who is having difficulty flashing the MS28 drive to not spend an entire day or two like myself trying to tweak things here and there to save a buck. Heck, I could have gone to work for an hour to pay for the damn pci card. Still, it was fun drinking and breaking things !!! The life of a PC junkie !!!

HI,

Can you tell me how you flashed it?
With the steps, because ms25 worked but not ms28. I bought a VIA card as you discribed.

Tnx in advance.

and as shinnster says, you should select xtreme primary, power off your xbox before, select xtreme primary then count to 10 and power on again, i have to count 15 to get mine to work its just a case of keep trying.
