hey, iv owned my PSP for some time now. and the thing is that....i think that the select button is jammed? well...for e.g. when i try to change my nickname on my PSP, the keyboard changes really quickly from capital letters, to undercase letters, to numbers, to URL. and the only way to do this is to press the select button. hope that didnt sound to confusing! and also, in game, the select button doesnt work for games that require use of the select button. any way of me to fix this? i was thinking of going to a Sony shop

The only way to change the keyboard to numbers, capitals etc. is the select button.

The only way that I think you could fix it would be to take it apart and see if you can unjam the select button. If you don't want to do this, I'd just take it somewhere that they fix PSP's, like you mentioned above.

Save yourself the hassle and do it yourself...There are 6 screws that hold the faceplate on-its a matter of getting those off and cleaning the contact under the select button, like the others said, theres probably some cookie crumbs under there jamming it up...
Tools needed:
size #00 precision screwdriver
canned air (to keep dust off of the LCD when you open it up)
Rubbing alcohol
Q-tips
Open up the PSP-dip Q-tip in alcohol and clean the contact under the select button-blow it out with the canned air to get the dust and crap out also...Put it back together...enjoy.
If you have had your psp for a long time like you said, more than likely your warranty has expired-And Sony will charge you an arm and a leg to do what I just outlined above...
WD-40?? Not a good idea...

I imagine so-Its a matter of just making sure you dont get dust on the screen when you put the faceplate back on..Otherwise it will look like you have dead pixels all over...And canned air is like $4.00 a can at most major retailers....Is white spirit the same as mineral spirits? If so, you probably dont want to use that on a circuit board...Mineral spirits is used for thinning oil-based paints, and for cleaning brushes after you paint...That might be a little harsh for your psp....

white spirit no way man, use kitchen towel on it rub very lightly, blowing could work or a small fan.

Yeah just use rubbing alcohol to clean the contact under that button..While you have the faceplate off, you might as well clean the other button contacts as well...
