I have a strange problem. When I place a DVD is drive D (NEC DVD_RW-3550A) or in drive E (Sony DVD-ROM DDU 1615)it is scanned by AnyDVD and the copy protect stripped. However, when I click on DVD Shrink 3.2 it shows no disc in the drive. The disc will play in Windows Media Player and in Windows Media Center 2004. SOMETIMES. Other times the following message appears: "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection." The error is 0XC00D1163. The disc just does not play in Windows Media Center 2004. When it does play, it will then appear in DVD Shrink 3.2 and can be ripped and burned. Should I place a data CD-ROM in either drive and then go to My Computer and click on the drive, the following message comes up: "D:\is not accessible. Incorrect Function." The same thing occurs for drive E. This happens for all data CD-ROMs.

I looked at the article and found that "mpgdec.ax" exists in my copy of DVD X Copy Platinum. I have DVD Shrink and use it frequently in conjunction with AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter. Not being an expert in the field and prone to "screwing up" I hesitate to make the changes the article describes. When I used "DVDUPGRD /Detect" I found that the only decoder that came up was the following: DShow SW: Name: "mpgdec.ax", Company Name: Moonlight Cordless Ltd., Version 2.0.0.2510, Product Version: 2.0.0.2510, CRC32: 0Xe97827a4, VID: 0, W2k Upgrade= No, Win 9X Upgrade= No, LCID = 0409. How do I find which DVD Decoders are present so I can contact the manufacturer? Looks like a complicated problem to solve.

I think it may be DVD XCopy causing the problem. You might as well uninstall it. I'm not aware of other people really having this problem which is why I suspect it may be the old DVD XCopy.
You could of course backup your data and reformat your HDD, reinstall the OS, and start with a minty fresh system which is something I recommend everyone due at least once a year. Don't reinstall DVD XCopy.

I uninstalled DVD X Copy Platinum and DVD X Copy Repair and then restarted my computer. The same error message comes up "D:\is not accessible. Incorrect function." The computer does not recognize any disc (DVD, music CD or data CD-ROM) in either drive. The DVD in question will play in Windows Media Player and then is accessible in DVD Shrink and Windows Media Center. I may have to reinstall my OS and lose several programs that were one-time downloads, unless there is another way to correct the problem.

I've never dealt with the problem personally. Didn't any of the fixes in the problem thread cited help or did you perform them.

The problem has been solved. The culprit was Roxio Media Creator. I uninstalled the program, rebooted, and then reinstalled Roxio Media Creator 7.5 and the problem went away. The answer was found by googling the error message which I should have done in the first place. Certainly a lesson learned.
