I use dvddcrypter, ripit4me, dvdshrink with nero6 running in the background, tdk discs and 4x for recording on xp. Had a problem with the discs(told to change media but it made not a difference) early on but found that after the 1st backup, if i cancel, open files, re-encode then backup once again i had no problem with burning. Until the last two discs...have been getting burn error..being the newbie that i am i deleted the burn notices but kept the log file for one. help!

Some versions of Nero 6 don't work well with Shrink. Try recording the output from Shrink to the hard drive. Then manually burn the files with Nero or save the output as an ISO and burn with ImgBurn. Nero burns both ISO and Files. If not familiar, ImgBurn is the updated burner ware from DVD Decrypter by the same author (it's free).

Yes you can use RI4M, it's only function is to rip and clean up the DVD files, once Shrink opens the RI4M is through. From there on, it's Shrink and the burner program. As I said, set Shrink to send the output to the hard drive and burn manually. Saving as an ISO makes it easier to burn with ImgBurn. The object is to see if the problem is your version of Nero. You can try burning with the Nero, manually, and then try burning with DVD Decrypter or the newer ImgBurn. That will also give you an idea where the problem is if not the burner.

By the way, with RI4M, use the 1-Click mode, set Rip Mode to anything but ISO and check the include Video_TS if not already checked in Preferences. Other than that, it's pretty much default settings. Let RI4M do everthing and don't skip any steps, even if it does indicate you can jump to Shrink. Hopefully you're using the last version, 1.7.1.0. If not, you can get a download from Softpedia.com. Also, you need to be using the last versions of DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter, 3.2.0.15 and 3.5.4.0 respectively. Of course you already know to have the Shrink and Decrypter loaded before installing RipIt4Me.

While R4M is still effective for most applications it won't be seeing anymore support, I would suggest looking at DVDFab HD Decrypter.

@thegolfer
How's it going, any success?

True, DVDFab HD Decrypter is the best freebie with support. So far though, the only release that's supposed to be trouble for RI4M is Blade: House of Chthon. DVDIdle just got the regular updated version released today to handle that release. I'll have my copy of Blade tomorrow to see how the comments stack up. A lot of people were saying Blades of Glory had RI4M in trouble, but I was able to use the 1-Click mode to do the Full DVD.

A person shouldn't rely on just one program. I've seen a lot of failures along the way. So, I'm with LOCOENG, get the free DVDFab if you don't already have it. If you do, get today's update.

You are using two different versions of Nero, update to 6.6.0.18 here:

These discs are a problem for alot of people...I suggest Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.

The error indicates drive/media problems. The firmware not being updated can have an effect as well as poor quality media. I agree with LOCOENG, CMC has caused a lot of problems. So, be sure the firmware is up to date and you're using good media. I'll add Sony +R to LOCOENG's list of good media. I've had exceptional luck with those and most sites list them as good. If available, packs with Made in Japan are preferable.

Nero logs should be posted in the Nero forum. You'll get a more specific audience for your post. The burn is strictly up to the Nero Burning ROM once Shrink has engaged it.

EDIT: I thought I'd add, when updating, uninstall Nero completely and do a clean install. Use the Nero clean tool which you can download from Nero. That cleans out lingering remnants of the older versions that can sometimes cause problems. Once the system is cleaned, then install the Nero update that LOCOENG mentioned.

am sorry for not getting back to the two of you sooner. i have been having fun since the last posting. delete, clean and reinstall of nero did the trick. also, pacman777, i went to one of your old postings re: drive speed and it has made a HUGE difference. whoever said you can't teach an old dog new tricks never had an old dog. kudos to both of you.

I'll ditto that.

@thegolfer
I don't know how far back you went on those burn speeds. Back when we were using 8X I burned at 4X. The better media has improved along with faster speeds. Nowadays I usually burn at 6X. A lot of people are burning at 8X. Personally, I wouldn't go over that, though I've come out okay a few times when I made a mistake and burned at Maximum. Possibility of errors increase with speed. Besides, the burn times aren't that much greater at 6X that it would make a big difference.

Good luck.
