I had my ps3 for about 2.5 weeks and when I open it, play games or switch the power off it made this tick sound a few times and sometime its louder than other times, it sounds like something inside cracked.
is there something wrong with the ps3 or this normal and the ps3 is eu ver.

and my firmware is 1.84 and when I played a ps2 game the image froze but the sound is still there. so how to fix this.

thanks in advance

Does the cracking noise happens everytime the PS3 is turned off and on??? I can tell you my PS3 has or ever made a cracking noise? Does anything happen after the PS3 makes the noise? Last time I heard a piece of electronics make a craking noise was my PC and it was because the Mobo gave out. My PC also frequently shut off when I had the mobo issue. Try upgrading the firmware and see if the noise continues or call Sony. If all fails return it for an exchange for another PS3.

updating it may resolve the ps2 game playing as it has a few problems playing sertain ps2 games but may get fixed on certain firmware updates.

If it's making a cracking noise make use of your warranty and get another one. This is the first time I've ever heard of one making odd noises.

thanks, there no problem with playing games or watching movies, well there were no slow down or the ps3 shutting off on it's own or any thing like that. it just that when the ps3 is turned on or turned off and when a game is started there is this noise that is like a tick, a noise that sounds like when you you press down on the front part of the ps3.

and when I check size of the hdd there were 45/55 gig and I all I did was Uprade it once, so is this normal for 10 gig to be used like that.

also there is no papers about the warrenty so how do I know if I got it or not, and how long does it last.
