so a friend of mine has an original ps2 (not a slim) that he's willing to give me. the only problem (possibly) is he bought it in japan. I'm just wondering if it will work here (including playing north american games) or will i have to get a chip put in to play north american games?

sorry, i should have been more specific. i know i'll have to get a modchip to play north american games, but what i was most curious about is power supply - i know i can get an adapter for it, but does anyone know if i can just buy a north american power cord and use that?

My friend owns a Japanese PS2 and he didn't need to buy any power supply for it. Just hook it up like any normal PS2.

I'm not sure actually. i know for us in Australia, we do need to get a power converter for appliances from Japan & US (due to different voltage appliances are designed to run on).
