Wow, that's kinda funny how this stuff has been happening quite frequently lately with movies, games, etc. Makes you wonder if the companies are starting to do this on purpose to gain publicity.

Well over 5000 people have downloaded it from a certain site in particular. I think Microsoft did this on purpose, not for publicity. Could it be possible to have tracking or even verification on these discs which were uploaded so Microsoft can ban accounts when the people try to play online. Might not be the case, but just seems unorthodox on Microsoft's part to allow this to happen.

They definitely wouldnt have done it on purpose but I wouldnt put it passed them to have some kind of verification embedded into it, such an important release and all.

Yeah definatly somethings not right here, woudl ahve though M$ to do soemthign here to stop these downlaods, such as gettign everone in their company to downlaod the torrent and have no uplaoding, so that no one coudl downlaod it!
Its just tooo strange, somethigns up, personally i wouldn't downlaod it! wacth i recokn M$ will ban accounts if the acheievemnts ahve been acheived before the release date, but ppl who got the game sent to them by argos might have a mechanism to stop their accoutns being banned. It just seems too weird for my liking!

Similar? Yes.
Identical? No.
Try getting past the first few levels before drawing to conclusions.

This is whats going to happen. People will download this before release date just crackdown with the beta version. People will play the illegal copie before the release date. Microsoft will know you played it when your online playing on live before release date and ban your account. Any who signs into xbox live with this game before or after the release date will get banned. The game has a serial number embedded into it on pursose to ban anyone using the same serial number found on the illegal copy. How do i know that. My dumb brother got banned for using the illegal copy of crackdown....

I have a question. The people who did download this cracked game wouldn't they just play it on their modded version and then just buy the original and use that to play it online? I mean wouldn't that make perfect sense?

Your not making much sense since all types of genre games have been around forever & by your own admission you've just said all games are out of date & lame...lmao
Back on topic: i've just seen the multiplayer video from bungie & how you can rewind the game & make the little movies from it as well as dropping vehicles on opponents...lol... what an unbelievable game it's going to be & shifting the enviromnt around aint a bad thing either, not sure if it includes making your own maps

You know it really makes me wonder how big of a tax write-off M$ has after all of this. Games of the future won't even be played on a disc you can buy from a store, but more than likely played exclusively from a server. Enjoy this while it lasts guys.

To be fair, I think we all knew that Halo 3 was going to be over-hyped. And to be even more fair, its next to impossible for this to have leaked out without the company's okay.
Anyone here who reads the New York Times, will probably remember reading a few months back an article about "The Powers of Fanboy!" For those of you who are confused; the article was about how hollywood and game developers and whatnot are consistantly leaking out games and scripts early so as to establish a base demographic, as well as let extra hype surge out. With the base demorgaphic, they can see where the target intrest areas are and who their target audiance is. With Halo 3 there has been a lot of worry about the audiance being mostly preteen kids (which is bad for the company because preteen kids, generally speaking, have less money).
The extra hype surge comes forth from people who host Halo Parties and whatnot and unviel their "pre"Pre-Release copies of the game, or just from people who brag to friends. The one thing that is most true of human nature is the fact that if someone has something we don't - We want it! And come first opritunity to get it, we will... The reason this is a good move on Microsoft's part, is because they know that only a very small percent of X-Boxes are moded, and those that are will pirate the game as soon as possible anyway, so releasing it does not, in theory, cause any profit loss. In fact, because so many people without modded consoles will see friends with the game, they will be there, in store, cash in hand, waiting for the first copies to hit the shelves.
We've seen this time and time again. Not many people remember but this happened with GTA: San Andreas for the PS2. Maybe 8% of PS2 owners have a modded console, so the profit loss is nothing major, but that 8% will be doing a lot of free advertising (bragging) on RockStar's behalf, making sure that when it is released the other 92% of people will be waiting in lines.

lol this is a nightmare for Msoft. i personally dont care for halo. and i doubt it will hurt MSOFT much. really. the only people getting this game are the ones that dont think its worth paying for. there is plenty of fans out there that will pay for this game. i mean my friend that works at game stop. one store has over 2000 pre paid orders. so the scant percent playing downloaded copies. isn't a big enough dent. i think all companies should factor in the pirate loss in their over all tallies in any product made these days.
so they have a more realistic profit figure. they gotta get their head out the clouds. people will pirate anything. so they should at least factor a 5% loss in each product lol
