SO I've gotten a new computer with Windows Vista and moved to download Media Player Classic, which I had on my old XP computer and used a lot.
However I'm finding the latest version a pain. It doesn't seem to get "installed" in my computer at all. It doesn't appear in the programs list, and to use it I must click on the icon and manually load the file.
Previously, it was installed as a program and when I right click on a media file, I could choose the "open with..." option to play it with media player.
Can someone explain why I can't do this anymore?

in explorer, you can right click on a media file, and manually select it. Then, it will appear in your "open with" list. Also, if you want to set media player classic as your default, open it and click on View>options and on the left side, select "Formats" under "Player" and set the default file types.

That's my whole point. The "open with" option never shows Media Player on my new Vista build. When i had XP it worked no problem.

bear with me here.. I don't have vista, but this should work.

Open up windows explorer, right click on a media file, go down to properties and left click. In the properties window that opens, about in the center, you will see " Opens with:" , now click the "Change" button to the right and manually select the classic player.

Now, if you right click on that file type, the player should show up in the "Open with" right click.
