I bought a secondhand 360. At the time, I was told that it had a 'software mod' and given the specific instructions that I should never reset it while it was booting up a game (else it would 'mess up the software and require a lot of work to get it running again').

I assume that this was a just a normal softmod - but is there anyway to (easily) find out what exactly has been done to this machine.

Also, perhaps a stupid question, but does the system update (as found on Bioshock and Halo 3) have any conflict with any softmods - ie if I run the update, will it a) brick the 360 or b ) overwrite the softmod?

(I don't use this with Live)
