I had been using the non-modchip/swapmagic swap technique to get my custom guitar hero backups to play. the technique is simple a couple seconds after the PLAYSTATION2 logo dissapears, use a slide tool, pop out the original and put in the fake, and slide it back in, and it will start playing.
anyhow, after a couple times of doing that, and a couple failures i got the game to play.
At one point the game froze, then i restarted the PS2 with the original guitar hero in it, and now it wont read DVD's.... ive tried other discs, nothing. Im pretty sure it still reads CD's though.
ive tried adjusting the voltage on the DVD reader but i couldnt get anything, and ive tried adjusting the white gear, nothing. i dont know how well i did it but all these guides say turn the DVD screw 2 degrees.... thats like... a retardedly small amount espcially on a screw || that big.
any idea whats wrong? should i mess with the voltage/white gear more?
thanks

also. sometimes when i was putting the tray back in, i would hear a grinding noise. the motor maybe.?
i would adjust the voltage last thing since that is the hardest to return to the original location. it could be a dirty laser. you can try cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol.
it could be a laser adjustment problem, i had it where the DVD's wouldn't play and i adjusted the white cog like 20 times before i got it to play, now i can play for hours.
it could be a worn out laser, might need replacing.
as far as the noise is concerned. there is a white arm in there that allows the laser to move back and forth, sometimes the notches on that arm wear down and when the laser tries to move, the arm just rides on top making a grinding sound. a solution to that is simply bending the arm down so it fits tighter on the gear shaft.
well, here are some suggestions, hope all works out.
oh, one more thing, some might say that you might try better dvd quality backup's (verbatim instead of memorex) or something like that
ok well i might want to add. This happened twice in a row, on two playstation 2 systems within 2 days. so i think it has something to do with the swap method screwing something up. remember i said the game just froze at some point during play, would this most likely mean that my DVD reading laser is busted now? or would changing voltage/angle fix it somehow.
