I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction here.

I use Ubuntu as my OS, i would like to be able to identify the region of wii discs using my computer. Is there a way of checking the region?

As a side question. When a disc tries to update the wii, are we informed? Do we have a chance to say "no" and decide the disc is better used as a nice coaster?

I have a final question which I might as well get out the way now. I use wiifree, which I was told by the installer had region locked, ie i can not play out of region. Will this stop any disc out of region from being recognised by the wii, and will that mean that it can not update at all from out of region wii discs.
