i read on twice.com that the pr0n industry contacted sony again, but they still refuse to license them. Isnt THAT what killed beta? *confused

Whether or not this is true it doesn't matter. Most things Porn related nowadays is tied to digital download service. So the format of what it is on in the "physical" media won't affect Sony or anyone else really.

This may soung crazy but the deciding factor in the past format wars has been determined by the porn industry. Look at Beta vs VHS. Look at laser disc vs DVD. This may be what kills blu-ray. We are once again faced with the pattern and I hope it is broken this time. I may be a little biased torward blu-ray since I own a blu-ray player(PS3) but in my opinion Blu-Ray has so much more potential than HD DVD. At this point in time regardless if the Blu-Ray camp is declaring victory it is too soon to tell who will win this generations format war. I do believe as sad as it may sound that porn does have a major influence on a format war.

Laser Disc and DVD had nothing to do with each other in reference to porn. It was simply the advances with technology that killed Laser Disc. And Porn will have no effect with BD sales or HD DVD as most people get their porn now via web or "on demand" through their cable/satellite. Not to mention standard DVD's will be around for a long time to come so this will also not bother both BD/HD either way.

Oner, are u saying that dL services will replace disc sales as the preferred format?

I was a little tired when I wrote my statment. Your right laser disc and DVD had nothng to do with each other. I was simply looking at the past and remembering a conversation a friend and I had months back about this very topic. You are right porn for the most part is downloaded now, but in the past it did have an effect on format wars. Long live the standard DVD. Who really wants to watch porn in HD anyway? Sorry for my inaccurate statment.

No, that is not what I said. I said MOST people get their porn now via web or "on demand" through their cable/satellite. With internet/web PROBABLY being the easiest one, especially if you consider the college boys everywhere and the ease of being able to get stuff via torrents etc. Now I have not conducted any sort of research on this but if you where to ask how most 17-25 year olds how they get stuff it would most definitely be the net.
Either way the topic is basically if Porn will be the deciding factor in BD "winning/losing" and like I said with DVD being the standard I doubt it will have any real effects one way or the other for either BD/HDDVD.
