I purchased 50 Optodisc 2.4x DVD+R's from Shop4tech based on several recommendations here. Upon opening the first pack, 3 of the first 4 discs had a tiny "hole" through the dye that would pass light. Of the first 3 I tried to burn, I had one coaster. The "hole" was a little larger on that disc.

I can't imagine this is common. Has anyone else had this problem?

TIA

EDIT: make that 2 failures on the first 4 discs ...had another.

Also, when looking at the top of the discs, you can see concentric striations. I'm relatively new to DVD burning, so I don't know if this is common or not.

I just bought 100 dvd-r's from ebay, some rinky dink brand, and they suck. The first 5 gave me bad sector errors. I'm going back to TDK. One brand that I used before that is cheap is Princo brand, I had no problem with those dvd-r's

I would send them back pronto!
As for these disc's, you should stay away and only buy branded DVD media as the quality is much higher. Ritek G03,G04. Datawrite v2 and TDK are ok.

I've got an RMA request in now ...they're headed back.

I think I'll stick with TDK too. I've been using our discs at work (TDK) and haven't had any problems with about 25 burns. Guess it's true ...you get what you pay for. :o)

I've always had good luck with the Ritek G03s and G04s.
