HELP PLEASE!!!!! UNLOCK SAMSUNG t509 SERVICE

I have a kind of a problem.About 2 days ago my friend droped his Samsung t509 in the tilot.At work he blow dryed it and left i to dry,now neither of us were trying to get a free phone with this whole thing,however he thought it had too much water damage and rather then paying to send it in to get repaired he had phone insurence on his T-mobile plan so called in and reported the cellphone lost.Now i think they must have stop the serbice on this phone because when i put my t-mobile simcard in there i have no service it doesnt get service,however the phone is working with no problems what so ever.Was the phone locked my T-mobile? and if so is there anything i can do to get that service back to get any kind of reception?
