Can you recommend a free easy to use program that will allow me to split mpeg video files ?

AviDemux is free and simple.

1 Load the mpeg file.

Edit file.

2-3-4 set output
5 Save mpeg.

I am trying avi-demux now !

I have never heard of this program. But surely there must be others, will all of the mpeg and avi files on the p2p programs there must be others.

Be carefully! free program can infected your PC.
I easy use [url=http://www.tunecab.com][/url] inexpensive program that convert majority file type and MPEG too, supported even CD-ripper for audio CDs. Quality is normal.

I used Quick MPEG Splitter, it can split all formats of MPEG file such as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, SVCD, VCD, DVD and so on. It has a built-in MPEG player to play the selected MPEG file.
