playback of mpeg is black and white ?!?!

when i play mpeg files in WM9 or divx player, it only plays it in black and white.
I followed Praetor's insructions on installing the codecs but it didnt solve the problem. However, when i play the mpeg files using winamp, it plays it in colour. Can anyone suggest which specific codecs i should install or are there any specific mepg codecs that i can download?
