I'm sure this question is always asked but I tried searching the forums and couldn't find a post. I'm looking for the best DVD-r blanks that are most compatible with dvd players. I've found that many times burned blanks will work in some players over others. Are there any blanks with a high compatibily rate with any dvd player brand or age? I'm also aware that some dvd players wont' support burned dvd's.

Does anyone know the reasoning why and what the difference is between a commerical grade dvd and a burned dvd as far as why a commerical dvd will always work and a burned won't even though they may have the same information on them?? Any help is appreciated and sorry if this is a repeat post.

Ritek G03 or G04 are the most compatable.
Updating your firmware will also help media compatability issues!

To answer your second question, comercial DVD's are stamped; with physical groves in the disc. Burned discs use dye to simulate grooves.

There's a good diagram here: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/cd-burner2.htm

Although it shows CD-R's, the concept is similar in DVD-R's.

They won't be stamped soon as the new generation of DVD's will allow DVD9 to be burned using a DVD burner.
