When you format the machine you lose all of the drivers. You will need to download and install new drivers for the card. Check your Device Manager and I'm sure that the drivers are not installed.

Here is what you do.
1. Right click My Computer
2. Select Properties
3. Select Hardware
4. Select Device Manager
5. Select Universal Serial Bus Controllers
6. Right click on each USB Controller and select Uninstall
7. Uninstall all entries
8. Reboot your computer
9. As your computer re-boots it will reinstall all USB connections it detects

That should get the problem fixed for you!

After you removed it and reboot the computer? That is kind of strange. Do you have SP2 installed on your XP machine? maybe this link will help you get it figured out. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812661

Other than that I'm kind of stumped. If you only have SP1 on your machine then the update to SP2 should fix it. If not you can request a hotfix from Microsoft. Let me know if you can or can't get it working. I may need the specs on the SD card to get it figured out. Good luck!

You can get it from Microsoft. Here is a link: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx

Or you can also try here: http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html

Personally I would use the one from Microsoft. It takes awhile to download. I would just let it work overnight while you sleep. Let me know if this works!
