Ok, I have a couple questions an I know there are alot of critics,,,, but plz refrain unless u have a good solution..
I have a unmodified ps2... I wish 2 make backup of some of my games an I read numerous threads as to u need a modchip, swapdiscs, r modified mem stick, an even external hd. But I keep thinking something is missing. Correct me if I am wrong but I really believe there is a way to copy the original game without any altering of anything. Before you start gettin stuck in your head your reply i ask for u to think about this an even give it a try.
I recently copied a dvd movie, an it was jus the movie, put it in my ps2 an as you could of guessed it came up with disc not formatted, etc.. bunch of excuses.
So when I burnt other dvd movies I incl. everything just like the original dvd movie, only exception was it was shrunk to fit a 4.7gb disc.
want the results???? the dvd played fine on my ps2 no mod chip, no swap disc, etc, unaltered ps2.... So as I was saying I really think something is being missed in the burning of games. If it was not the case, then y the modchip, etc.. So in a sense point rested the ps2 is lookin for something on the game disc that allows it to play, the thing is what file, etc is it missing. if found an burnt I think the burnt game copy would play fine w/o any alterin of the ps2 at all,,,, but thats jus my opinion.
But anyone willing to look into what i say i use dvd43 an 1click copy pro, when burning the movie select full disc-everything, with compression.. (dvd43 is free an 1clickpro gives u 3 freebies) an then try playing it on your unaltered ps2 I bet it works. So i rule out the whole lookin for the serial numbers on the inside ring of dvd, cause the burnt dvd movie that works has no serials. So point being just the movie only a file the ps2 was lookin 4 was missin so it didnt work, when burnt exactly but shrunk w/e file it was tryin to find it found it an played the dvd w/o any probs at all.... So give it a try what i said n maybe someone can figure out what file it is looking for an maybe be able to patch it in!!!!!!!!!!!!!! An who knows maybe someone smarter than me can copy games w/o alterin there sytem in anyway....ty
Actually, to make it simple... the main problem with burning a game copy that would boot as is, is the fact that regular burners can't burn into the area that would need to be burned into for identifying the disc as an original. The cost of one of these burners is well over $10,000. Discs that could be used for the same purpose are also quite expensive (not to mention pretty much impossible to find).
On the other hand, a DVD-Video doesn't require this kind of information (obviously, the PS2 can play movies made before PS2's even existed). So a PS2 can play a DVD-Video as long as it's burned on a disc and in a way that the PS2 can understand (which isn't hard at all, as you figured out). As long as you burn the disc as a DVD-Video and have the proper format of movie files on it, it should work just fine.
That is why what you did with a movie worked. On the other hand, until you develop your own DVD press or specialized burner (which many have tried and failed to do), you won't be able to load a burned PS2 game as you would a PS2 original no matter how hard you try.
Thanks for the input it makes sense. I am just one of those people that love challenges an when someone says it can't be done I like to prove em wrong an one always wants to be hopeful of a situation even when the odds are stacked against ya. But this one looks unbeatable unless I go to work for ps2 an borrow one of there burners, I am sure they be more than happy an willing.... NOT!!!! I guess I just have to get a modchip in the meanwhile.
