Hi i just got an xbox 360 premium with the hdmi port today and Halo 3. I heard that the Nyko intercooler breaks 360's so i didnt bother getting one.

I just need advice on what to do to prevent the red lights...i never owned a 360 before, this is my first one.

As of right now i try to limit my playtime to about an hour, then i play again sometime later and let the 360 rest...i also have a normal fan pointed directly behind my 360.

Am I being to paranoid about the red lights? Can I play longer than an hour w/o me worrying about the red lights?

Thanks in advance, so far im lovin my 360

1.) Keep your 360 in an open area, not in small spaces.

2.) If you don't worry about it being knocked over by animals or kids, play with it standing vertical. More surface area exposed means more space for heat to dissipate from.

3.) Never leave your 360 on, let alone play it, for over 4 hours straight. I personally never play for more than 3.

Also a good thing is to keep the house cool if you can. And always prop it up off of any surface so it has the best airflow, especially on carpet. I use a VCR tape and just center it under the console that way very little area is touching another surface to heat up.

You can also buy aftermarket fans from Talismoon. But for this you would have to open the case. The snap on style coolers are a waste of your money. You can buy a cheap fan and just put it in front of the unit and get much better airflow.

either that or turn your fan around so that it's sucking the hot air out of the 360. but either way, it'll help a lot with the cooling of it

actually i personally believe after market snap on fans are a great way to cool your xbox with. Buy the intercooler EX the new model it has metal so it wont short circuit and destroy your xbox. Also i used the cooler by pelican on the bottom of the 360 to get just that extra side of airflow. And after all of that my discs after playing over 5 hours come out only slightly warm and you can actually feel the air being sucked in to the 360 from the top and side. As before they would almost be to hot to touch. So as you can see i was just as paronoid as you where. Now my 360's most likely safe from the 3 lights and it's so totally worth the 30 bucks to spend.

yeah i'm the man
