Heard about this from Nintendo Tech. Dept.

If your sensor bar packs up ie Hamster chews thru lead like mine.

Get 2 candles and position them one each side of TV on top. Apparently all the sensor bar consists of is a few led lights and the cable is the electrical feed to them from the Wii. The remote does all the work ie transmitting the signal etc.

Try it and use as a great party trick.

The Wii "Sensor Bar" doesn't actually sense anything. It just broadcasts two infrared signals from each of the "windows" on it at the ends. The cable to the Wii is just for power. Then wiimote then picks up the direction the two signals are coming from, and sends a wireless signal to the Wii. The reason you can use candles is because candles also emit infrared radiation, and the wiimote picks it up as well.
