my computer comes to the bootup screen and then gives me this error

"windows faied to start. a recent hardeware or softwre change mght be the cause."

ive looked all over the place for a solution and i cant find one that works to get vista to boot back up. i even bought a knoppix boot disk to try and fix it can anybody help with aby a walkthrough or a tutorial on how to recover my system

You will probably need to do a clean install.
