hey guys, new to the group. thanks for having me :)
anyway, new to the mod scene, got my old phat ps2 and just got a duo gold 3 installed, backups work 100% but i want to run aub extreme so kids dont wreck discs.
i used usb extremes utility to rip games to my usb drive. I have an Iomega 500gb external usb drive.
the usbex utility shows the list of games on the newly formatted drive. but when i plug it into ps2, the usbex app tells me theres no usb device attached. what gives?
is my drive too big? i read usbex can handle up to 2tb?
is there another usb loader out there i can burn to cd? im new so i know nothing about elfs and mc exploits etc. can i run a mc exploit that tell the ps2 to boot from hdd?
maybe i need a newer version of usbextreme? i dunno!
i dont mind backing up discs but using that hdd would be real nice.
thanks for your help and have fun!

I also have a 1gb usb thumb drive...is there a way to put something on it to tell ps2 to boot from hdd? or do i still need usbex disc to have menus and interface?

i noticed when games are ripped to hdd its just files all over the place, should each game be in its own folder? or just let usbextreme dump files where it wants to?

Yes just let usbExtreme do its thing. That is the way the files go on the usb hard drive.
They look like this:
ul.06BA0C12.SCUS_974.81.06
ul.6583BE25.SCUS_974.81.06
ul.77395AB6.SCUS_974.81.06
I also use usbinsane to copy games to usb hard drive. It works very well too.
You can download it by using the same link as above and scrolling down under usbadvance.

I finally looked up the specs on your Iomega 500GB External USB drive.
Your USB Enclosure has to be downwards compatible with USB 1.1... PS2's USB ports only use 1.1 instead of 2.0
This could be one reason why it is not being recognized. Check your specs on the drive and see if it is backward compatible with 1.1
If it is, then you could always try to partition your USB drive into 2 drives, format the 1 partition to FAT32 using the USBExtreme_wininst
for windows.
Another idea is first using the USBExtreme_wininst to format your drive once again, unless that is how you formated to fat32 in the first place, then try copying games again.

ya i checked my drive on iomega's site, its 2.0 and 1.1. when i shut power off then on, the drive will show up after a short delay, then show a game in the list, when i goto start the game, i get nothing but a black screen. maybe "that" game dont work with usbex? dunno, so im loading several games on now and we'll see if one of em works. how long should it take for the ps2 to see the drive?

It doesnt take long on my PS2 Slim or my V7. But I use Swap Magic to boot mine, or the Real UsbExtreme Disk that I have.
Mine is a 300GB, could just be because its 500GB.
Yes check the compatibility site I posted above to see if your games work or have issues.
If you need to swap DNAS to get games to work.
