Hi guys,

Im new to the forums so dont bash me if I dont know much about this stuff :)

Anyways, I just recently got a hold of a slim line ps2 and was wondering what was the best way to play import (japanese) ps2 games on it without modchips? I did my research and I know the 2 that everyone uses are either a) swap magic w/ flip top , or b) swap magic with magic keys

I have a black slimline ps2 version SCPH-70012.
Which do you guys prefer is the best way to play the imports?
I just heard negatives about both so I am a little iffy on which to purchase.
I heard the flip tops can mess up if not installed correctly and the ps2 will not be able to read the discs.
I also heard the magic keys (mainly the third piece) will not fit into the ps2 correcly and gives everyone a headache...and wont allow the lid to close.
Also does it matter if I have a magic key set 1 or 2?

Thanks in advance. Hope to hear from someone :)

Hmmm, well i was looking at that but I am afraid I might screw up my system and cause damage to it. I am clumsy when it comes to stuff like that so I dont know if I could manage it or not.

Also, my ps2 is a US version if it matters.

You can use the straw and cardboard mod. It doesn't involve opening up your ps2 so it won't screw anything up. Ace has a very good guide on this.

Hey thanks for that link.

Will that work on my v12 slim ps2? It said that it works on the v13 and v14. Also, the place where you put the last piece (3rd piece) has a metal thing next to the hinges but my ps2 version doesnt.

Will it be easier if i just purchased the magic key II?

Well, Magic Keys 2 are essentially the same thing. They do the same job, it's just that they cost Money. Either that or you could install a fliptop, which is the BEST way to swap disks.
