My 360 dvd drive has been acting up lately (it's an MS28) with disc read errors and the 'please put into a 360 console' and I'd like to replace it, if possible with another one (MS28 also). Where should I look for buying a replacement and how much would be a reasonable price for one (I'm in UK) - if i dump the firmware for this drive (I used iPrep on USB device) can I just flash it to the new drive using iFlash as the key from the old one will be the right one to just copy across won't it?

Yes all you have to do is flash your key onto the new drive. However it would be alot cheaper to just buy a new laser also. =)

Lol you dont have to solder the laser on. You just simply take the drive apart, unhook the pcb, take out 3 little screws, slide the old laser off and the new one back on and reverse the assembly process.

All you have to do is take the 4 screws (samsung) 6 screws (hitachi) out on the bottom of the drive. The bottom half casing will pull off. From there you can see the mainboard. Look at the link i gave you for removing the mainboard. after you have the board out. Notice the rail(s) that the laser slides on. There will either be 1 screw (hitachi) or 2 screws (samsung) take these out and dont loose them. After that unscrew 1 screw from the white clip that mounts onto the laser. Take the white clip off, lift up gently on the rails and pull your laser off and mount the new one.

Actually there is an Anti-Static point in the new Laser assembly which needs to be de-soldered before you can use it. If you can find a local electrician, its just a 2 mins work.
