Is it possible to rip a HD format disc into an uncompressed .AVI, or other video file format, and then burn on a DVD-9 to play on a DivX machine that plays different video formats?

So... HD DVD or Blu ray (18 gb) > 1 DVD-9 (9 gb .avi) + 1 DVD-9 (9 gb .avi)

Ripping HD Disc to a video TS DVD format will lose the higher res.
