Depending on what version it is, it varies....
My V12 Euro lasted 10 months when minor probs started(wierd sounds,Scratches on discs)
A day after a year my laser was DEAD!

Replaced it......
another year passed by.....
and DEAD AGAIN!!
This time not only laser but the whole thing!!

Well my PS2 is a phat and pretty old version, modded like yours, started playing backups around last spring, only using quality discs [Verbatim]. I've had my baby for about 5 years now. One time it wouldn't read discs, only randomly would it work, gamestop tried to trick me into buying another one. Opened it up and cleaned the laser, everything was good again.

The biggies have had lesser issues with laser.
V12 was the worst slim version which suffered laser probs.
but later versions have siginficantly improved.
