Hi all,
Great forum here I am experienced with CD backup but pretty new to DVD. I hope this isn't one of those questions that is asked all the time...

If I create a complete image of a DVD-9 and save it as an ISO, I know I can burn a DVD using the image file. But is there any way to open up the ISO file in order to view the contents of the image as a disk or to re-author it? With CD-ROM images I used to do this with a virtual CD drive such as Daemon Tools or CloneCD. But I didn't know if this would work with a DVD ISO file.

Please advise thanks in advance!

Hi

I am using Nero 6 with Imagedrive and everything works ok.

Thanks mdragon. If Imagedrive works perhaps there is no difference between DVD and CD ISO files in the eyes of a virtual disk.

Personally I refuse to purchase Nero or Roxio products, IMHO they are a little overpriced. But I will try D-Tools (freeware) it sounds like it may work fine. I didn't think to try it before posting my question...thanks again.

No. A dvd9 is 9.4 gb(or so) and the most you can burn to a dvd-/+r is 4.7 gb (4400 mb). You need to compress if you want to fit it onto a single dvd.

Thanks yuedana but my question had nothing to do with burning the DVD-9 image file to one disk. I was just asking how can I access the ISO file so I can get into the files, re-authour it, compress, etc. etc. I tried D-Tools tonight and it works fine.

what do you really want to do. If you want to make backups and burn them on a single dvd, you should use DVD Shrink. This will interpret the ifo and VOB and let you select out audio streams and so forth.

You can play them off your hard drive by opening files and selecting the appropriate ifo file. (if you do whole disc it is video_ts.ifo)

Check out the dvdshrink.info site. It might have what you want. (I'm not sure what that is yet)
