Modded PS2 no longer plays backups

My modded PS2 will no longer boot backups after my brother stepped on my PS2. Original games work fine. I've tried to use different media to no avail. Anybody have any idea what the problem could be and how to fix it?

I actually got a game to work, I'm just having trouble now getting my other games to work. Possibly an issue with the laser?

Could be the laser. Cleaning it may help.

Playing backup games works the PS2 laser harder than real official games so it dies quicker.

How long have you been doing this?

Your laser might be dead/in need of cleaning/replacement.

or it could be the backup CD/DVD is too damaged or has just died itself, I think (not sure) I read somewhere backups only last for 6 months or so.

I wouldn't let people step on my PS2!

Backups last longer then 6 months if you use good media. If you use crap, you never know.
