if i download a game from someone that uses a windows 2000 OS, when i only use win 98, can that game still run on my machine or should i download from someone thats also using win 98?.

Check game makers homepage, which OS is supported.

Generally it's meaningless what OS(Win) do you have if this game is designed to PC, cause you have to install it anyway, but if it's already installed his/hers computer it probably won't work any other pc.
(sorry if i spelled something wrong :))
