Halo 3 Achievment problem

This is what happened. I played missions 1-3 solo on normal, then my son joined co-op from mission 4 all the way to the end. He received achievments from all the missions all the way to the end but did not receive an achievment for beating the game. We thought maybe cause he did not have the acheivments from the begginign of the game so we went back and finished the first three missions for him and got his achievments. He still did not get the achievment for beating the game but has all the other achievments. I'm guessing we now how to go and do the last mission again from the begining and beat the game again for his "beat the game on normal" achievment is unlocked. Am I correct? Also when I beat the game he was dead on the ground and did not respawn while I finished. would that cause it to think he did not beat the game cause he was dead when I finished? Anyways, if anyone knows please let me know.

when you highlight a mission to choose, it should show how you completed it solo or co-op, look to see if they all have medals, 1 probley wont

I did go back and check to be sure all had the metal for normal and one did not. Arrival. Threw me off cause arrival is not even part of the gameplay but just the opening cutscene. One I started arrival on normal it automaticly gave the acheivment for beating the game on normal. Awsome. Now we can start Heroic. Thx
